JBJ Soul Kitchen, a non-profit Community Restaurant run by the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, has announced that they are hosting a special Guest Chef evening with our very own NJSBDC award winner, Chef Marcy Ragan of Relish Your Chef. “This is a well- deserved accomplishment and we couldn’t be more proud”, said NJSBDC center Director, Jackeline Mejias-Fuertes.

Marcy Ragan has been a client of the NJSBDC at Brookdale Community College prior to opening her successful Relish Your Chef personal chef and catering business. According to Marcy, “The state of my business before I worked with the SBDC was just an idea. I needed to come up with a viable, marketable concept that would harness my talents, sustain growth, make a profit and make sure I was having dinner with my most important clients, my family.  SBDC helped me realize that my goals are achievable. MOSBDC takes your big idea and breaks it down into manageable actionable steps.  These actions build the foundations of business.  Working with the MOSBDC gives me the confidence to intelligently navigate and structure my own business, understand where I should take the lead when I should trust another professional to assist in their area of expertise.”

All Marcy’s hard-work and dedication (and massive talent) have paid off. In addition to her already growing success, she is now being featured at JBJ Soul Kitchen, for a guest chef evening. For this one of a kind, 5-course dinner, Chef Marcy Ragan will pull from one of her most powerful influences, Rock and Roll. Guests can expect bold flavors and enchanting nuances showcased in her creative and enticing dishes. Taking cues from Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Little Feat, and other notable artists, Chef Ragan will compose dishes inspired by the lyrics of Tangerine, Glass Onion, and Dixie Chicken, among others. This Rock and Roll dinner will consist of outstanding local produce grown by Silverton Farms, Argo’s Farm, and the lush Soul Kitchen gardens.

“I will always continue to work with the SBDC,” Marcy continues. “After my initial classes and work with them, I was able to structure a real business and get paid well for the expertise and high level of skill that I bring to my clients.  In two years of business my clients have increased exponentially, I have been featured in 3 publications (with maybe a couple of more on the horizon) and my revenues have increased.  I have bootstrapped my way into business and I will be starting my fourth year in the fall.  I have so many interesting projects on the horizon and now I know how to make them work through the MOSBDC.”
