Emerging Leaders Initiative Helps Growing Small Businesses Thrive
The U.S. Small Business Administration and its New Jersey District Office are reminding Garden State small business owners and entrepreneurs to apply for the 2021 Emerging Leaders initiative. The application is open to small business executives and will focus this year on those poised for growth in underserved markets.
The intensive Emerging Leaders program provides entrepreneurship education and training that includes nearly 100 hours of virtual classroom time. The program will run from late April through October.
According to SBA New Jersey District Director Al Titone, this intensive executive entrepreneurship series will be fully virtual this year and include nearly 100 hours of classroom time. Additionally, the class will provide participants with the opportunity to work with a network of experienced coaches and mentors.
“Space is limited for Garden State small businesses; don’t delay in applying online today,” Titone added, pointing potential registrants to the 2021 SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative webpage.
Interviews for the program begin next week and all interested are urged to apply. Those selected for the Class of 2021 will also be able to attend specialized workshops as well as develop connections with fellow small business owners, innovators, elected official and the financial community.

According to Titone, the SBA Emerging Leaders program helps build sustainable businesses that promote economic development within Garden State communities. “Our primary goal is to continue attracting inner-city small business owners, who are poised for next-stage growth, and provide them with the necessary support, resources and skills to help them to achieve long-term success,” he said.
Since its inception in 2008, Emerging Leaders has trained more than 4,000 small business owners nationally, creating over 7,000 jobs, generating over $500 million in new financing, and securing over $4 billion in government contracts. According to past New Jersey Emerging Leader participants, 80% credited the program for allowing them to maintain or add new jobs at their company, 82% reported continuing their profitability and 91% stated they would recommend the program to a fellow small business owner.
